Battle of Hastings
The Sussex Grand Prix kicked started with the Hastings Half on March 18th. In what proved to be cold and wintery conditions at least the snow and ice had melted!
Some great Phoenix performances were seen with Paul Whelpton coming quickest not only in his age group but in the one below that and within a few seconds of the one below to hold the 65+ age group course record. Max Dumbrell made the five-step podium by coming fourth overall.
The system of team scoring is to be announced but it seems likely that the positions of each clubs top 10 men and top 10 women will determine the team's points for each individual race (similar to XC League meetings). If this is the case it is going to be the top 10 men and top 10 women in every race who score for the team so turnout is going to be crucial.
SGP points are based on finishing positions but only runners from SGP clubs count, and male and female finishers are counted separately.

The next two races are the Hastings 5 (record holder Phoenix's Ross Skelton) and Horsham 10k. We had great team performances at both races last year, including wins for Josh Guilmant and Max Dumbrell . The only problem was that quite a few of our runners left it too late to enter Horsham and the race sold out, so don't make the same mistake this year!
